Description: 1892 Columbian Expo Medallion Eglit-106 102mm, Bronzed Lead Choice AU with Loop One of the largest pieces issued for the Columbian Expo, Eglit-106 is a massive, dramatic, high-relief, 102mm piece that is over 10mm thick. The Pogliaghi design is considered among the most beautiful of the series, and the 102mm is much scarcer than the common 59mm version. A highly sought after type generally encountered in bronze, white metal, and a special, oxidized white metal. Only a few pieces have been reported in bronze-plated lead or pewter. Made with striations in the open fields; the bronzing didn't stick to the lead very well, yet this odd composition is seen on various Columbian medals, with similar results. The fragility of this composition, combined with the extreme weight of the 102mm version, means that few have survived, unscathed to the present day. These and similar large medals are prone to rim bruises and damage. This piece is entirely problem free, save for a loop that has been added at 12:00.The term medallion is reserved for any "medal" with a diameter of 100mm or greater.
