Description: 1909 INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY AUTO RACING 12X18 POSTER ART DECO INDY 500 RACE This is a reproduction print of a 1909 lithograph(by Otis) poster of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 1909 race. Despite the posters boast, Carl Fisher's Indianapolis Motor Speedway was far from being the "greatest race course in the world" when it opened for business on August 19, 1909. In three days of racing on the rough, treacherous dirt track five were killed, two of them spectators. By next year, however, "Fisher's Folly" had been surfaced with brick, and the future success of the Indianapolis 500 was assured. On the poster bottom left it says: Management, C.G. Fisher, F.H. Wheeler, A.C. Newby and J.A. Allison. It's great! It measures 12 x 18 inches and has a white border. It is printed on thick 100 pound card stock paper. A very high quality poster print!
