Description: BENI KOSH / CHARLES ELMER HARRIS-LISTED AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTIST-ORIGINAL OIL. Beni Kosh was an African American artist whose given name was Charles Elmer Harris which he changed sometime in the early sixties to Beni Kosh which meant to him, Son of Ethiopia..I am one of the two original owners of his complete body of work. These were thrown out to the trash at his death and we were able to purchase from the picker all the paintings. In interviewing some of his remaining friends and doctor we learned much about his life. He hated criticism and did not like to sell any of his work. He is featured in the publications “YET STILL WE RISE” and “RECOLLECTIONS AND REVELATIONS-self taught artists from central and northeastOhio-1850-2007” His work was first shown at the Butler Museum of art and Cleveland’s mayor made it Beni Kosh Day on the day of our first show at Rachel Davis Fine Arts. His work is now in many museum collections. This is a great portrait..oil on canvas and unframed. It looks like it is titled “Sin” under his signature. I believe she has red hair and one of his former contemporary artists said he loved red headed women.
