The fabric appears same on both sides, see photo showing turned edge. Weight is similar to a typical nice quality quilting cotton, but with threads just a shade thicker. A perfect fabric for primitive-style Christmas décor and crafts. I also think it could make a great shirt or dress for an 1800s look. I don't have a date on it, but I'm guessing this was produced during the 1980s-1990s primitive crafts and country craze. Think of Jan Patek, et al.
