Description: This fort ancient cannel claw effigy pendant was found on the fox field site in Mason Co Ky. Fox field was an unusually large and long occupied fort ancient site, and is the largest archeological site in KY, encompassing over 99 acres. Fox field is interesting in that it seems to have been occupied for a long time because it was the site of several industries based on the number of bone artifacts, cannel coal artifacts and drilled canine teeth found there. Is thought that this may have been a trading center where fort ancient artisans produced these artifacts in abundance. I’ve collected hundreds of cannel coal artifacts from fort ancient over the years- it was a favorite material of fort ancient people, but is rare as it can degrade under wet or freezing and thawing conditions and it is very light enough to float in many cases. This is a rounded claw effigy- presumably a bear claws. More common cannel coal claw effigies are flat like a cat or bird. This one has abundant wear around the holes but is in great condition. I have good provenence on this including previous collectors and the finder that I can provide the buyer Guaranteed authentic forever, with a 30 day return policy. 1024-3150 Check out our Facebook page: Central Kentucky arrowheads and artifacts
