One leans on his elbows and sticks his tongue out, another is holding a one-eyed skull and appears to have been bitten by the skull. The third seems spooked by the spook he is holding. At the time of carving, Peter had been browsing through a book on the artist Pieter Brueghel and seems to have been more influenced by his paintings than by the gargoyle stone carvings of English churches.
