Description: HO Old Time Wood Long Island RR Ash Removal Car. LIRR**NICE**READ** Very nicely built from a Wood kit or kitbashed and distressed. Custom painted and lettered for the LIRR with Kadee couplers and nicely rolling sprung trucks. This is a custom LIRR version. Special high gondola cars were used to haul all the Ash from Coal burning furnaces in Brooklyn and Queens Counties that was collected from various dumps around the city. Most of the ash was hauled by the LIRR to Flushing Meadow Park as land fill. Later home to the NY Worlds fair. Many similar cars were operated by the Brooklyn Ash Removal company (BARC) up to 1940.
