They are decorated with incised ornamentation on the body; hand carved from a single piece of wood with traces of Lime, Red Ochre and Charcoal. Old inventory numbers on the back (393). Provenance: Private collection. Collected in the early 1970s during an expedition through the rivers of the West Papua New Guinea Region and selected prior to New Guinean regulations limiting the export of art. Condition: This piece is one-of-a-kind, hand carved by Asmat Tribesmen. This artifact is in good condition it might exhibit signs of environmental exposure, insect degradation or utilitarian use, chips, natural wood splits, patina, polish from handling and repairs that are consistent with its age. Top figure has a split on the head and the bottom figure is missing a small piece of the foot. Sold as is.
