Description: Wooden Joiner Plane with W. Butcher Blade Here is a fine example of early American craftsmanship. Measures approx.18" Long. 3" wide and 3" tall (not including handle). Overall height of the handle and body is 7.25". The tool is heavy (6lbs) and appears to be made of beech, but is colored like walnut. The straight blade is 2" wide & marked W. Butcher. Research reveals the blade was manufactured by W. Butcher ( William Butcher) who owned and operated a tool company in the U.S. from 1830 - 1870.Due to the age of the tool (1800's) it exhibits signs of normal wear i.e scratches, cracks, dings etc. The blade is dull and has some surface rust.We do our best to describe the items we sell.
