It ticks, and alarm works, but the time dial keeps turning with no apparent stop, so it doesn't keep time. My dad definitely used this alarm clock - you can see the wear of use on the front and base paint and trim, particularly the nickel center piece on the base and paint chipping off around the face, mostly between the 5 and 9. It's been loved! It measures 3.5 inches high and 3.25 inches wide. For local pick up in Portland, OR or I will ship in the US.
